Platinum Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs) are ideal for industries where accurate temperature measurement is important. Compact yet stable, these temperature sensors are ideal for repetitive temperature measurements over a range from -185°C to 480°C (-300°F to 900°F).
Honeywell’s Platinum Resistance Temperature Detectors are temperature sensors used for accurate temperature measurement. They comprise a 100 ohm platinum temperature detector, a sheath and a protective well of carbon steel or contamination-resistant stainless steel.
Ideal for several applications, the temperature sensors are available in a variety of assemblies:
-
General purpose detector – Available with the option of a screw cover head and ideal for mounting bare or in a well, and used in tanks, pipes, ovens, lehrs and process vessels.
-
Plain detector – Available with a flexible Teflon cable and the option of compression fittings for mounting into molding machines, heated dies and environmental chambers.
-
Spring loaded assembly – Help ensure the temperature detector and well are in constant contact for improved heat transfer and vibration endurance.
Platinum Resistance Temperature Detectors measure the change in electrical resistance of the platinum temperature detector when exposed to changes in temperature. To reduce the effect of lead wire resistance between the Resistance Temperature Detectors and instrument, the assemblies are always supplied for use in three-wire (copper) systems but can be used in a two-wire manner if the application permits.
Honeywell’s Platinum Resistance Temperature Detectors use a 100 ohm platinum wire element approximately 3mm in diameter and 13mm long. This small platinum element is inherently very stable, provides excellent linearity and is very repeatable when used for temperature measurement. Factory calibrated for excellent accuracy, the RTDs are small in size, which enables easy installation and handling.
Platinum RTDs are highly stable, accurate and repeatable compared to other temperature sensors such as thermocouples. With different wiring configurations and assembly types designed for a range of mounting requirements, these temperature detectors are suited to many applications. Compact design makes these temperature sensors easy to install and replace, and with no moving parts, these temperature sensors help reduce maintenance and operating costs.
