Thermocouples with Protecting Tubes are available in several models to measure a wide range of temperatures, and are calibrated differently depending on the application. Ideal for harsh industrial environments such as furnaces and ovens, kilns and chemical plants, they are built with high-quality materials to meet stringent quality standards.
Honeywell’s complete line of Thermocouples is available with a wide variety of Protecting Tubes to protect them from harsh industrial environments.
The protection tubes are used to protect the thermocouples:
-
From deleterious gases
-
From corrosive fluids
-
From extreme pressures in a pressurized vessel
-
Against mechanical damage
Honeywell’s thermocouple protection tubes include an element comprising thermocouple wires, double bore ceramic insulators, terminal block, protecting tube and terminal head. The purpose of the thermocouple connection or terminal head is to provide facilities for making positive electrical connections between the thermocouple and extension lead wires and to provide a means of attachment for a protecting tube and extension wire conduit.
A thermocouple is composed of two dissimilar metal wires welded together to form a junction. This junction develops a small DC voltage proportional to the temperature measured at the junction. This voltage, or EMF, can then be measured by the instrumentation and converted into a temperature reading. Depending on the type of wire used in the element, or junction, the thermocouple can measure temperatures ranging from -184°C to +2330°C (300°F to +4000°F).
Protecting tubes, or wells, are used to protect the thermocouple junction. A wide variety of tube materials are available to accommodate many applications. To ensure minimum maintenance, the thermocouples have absolutely no moving parts.
Honeywell’s Thermocouples with Protecting Tubes demonstrate the fastest response to temperature changes and offer a simple, reliable and low-cost solution for harsh industrial environments. The wide range of options and accessories add to their versatility, and the rugged design makes them easy to install and maintain. With no moving parts, these thermocouples help reduce maintenance and operating costs.
